USDA releases June 2026 Acreage Report and Grain Stocks

Progressive Farmer reported, U.S. farmers planted 95.3 million acres of corn and 85.4 million acres of soybeans in spring 2026, USDA said on Tuesday, unchanged from March’s estimate and within the range of pre-report estimates.”

“Tuesday’s USDA Acreage estimates were neutral for corn, neutral for soybeans and slightly bullish for wheat, said DTN Lead Analyst Rhett Montgomery,” Progressive Farmer reported. “Tuesday’s Grain Stocks estimates from USDA were neutral for corn, neutral for soybeans and neutral for wheat, he said.”

American Ag Network’s Jesse Allen reported that, “the corn number was slightly higher than pre-report estimates and USDA’s March figure of 95.338 while the soybean number was slightly below the pre-report average but above USDA’s March figure of 84.700 million acres. USDA says all-wheat acreage came in at 42.740 million acres, below the average trade guess and USDA’s March number of 43.775 million. All cotton acreage came in at 9.850 million acres, higher than the pre-report estimate and the USDA March figure of 9.640 million acres.”

“On the grain stocks side, USDA says corn stocks are up 14 Percent from June 2025, soybeans stocks are up five percent and all wheat stocks are up eight percent,” Allen reported

Successful Farming’s Cassidy Walter reported that, “the report methodology said the planted acreage estimates were based mainly on farmer surveys conducted the first two weeks of this month. Altogether, the USDA estimated a total of 223.4 million corn, soybean, and wheat acres for 2026/2027, down from 225.3 million for 2025/2026.”

The Oklahoma Farm Report reported that, “the USDA’s reports delivered support to the wheat and corn market. Lower wheat acreage and a June 1 corn stocks estimate that supported usage combined to provide positive news to markets.”

“All wheat acreage is projected at 42.7 million acres for the 2026 crop year, down six percent from 2025,” Oklahoma Farm Report reported. “Lower acreage across the major classes is the consistent story from the prospective plantings report. Winter wheat acreage fell from the March Prospective Plantings report and is down around three percent from the previous estimate by NASS at 31.5 million acres.”

“Oilseeds benefited from lower wheat and corn acres in the northern plains with canola, sunflower, and soybean area increasing across the region,” Oklahoma Farm Report reported. “Canola acreage came in at 2.965 million acres, up almost 27 percent from last year. In particular, North Dakota intends to plant 2.35 million acres, up from 1.81 million in 2025. Oklahoma upped canola acreage to 27 thousand acres in 2026. Lower winter wheat acreage was expected, but confirmation of the loss is supportive for wheat prices.”

“Speculation on lower corn acreage was widespread due to concerns about input costs,” Oklahoma Farm Report reported. “While the final acreage total has yet to be settled on, corn acreage near this level seems assured at present.”
